Steelers take Pouncey with 18th pick

The Pittsburgh Steelers have helped add talent to the offensive line by selecting center Maurkice Pouncey in the first round.

Pouncey could possibly be the most NFL-ready prospect of any selected in this year’s draft.

He ended up not being selected until No. 18 overall because centers do not hold all that much value.

That said, Pouncey has a tremendous blend of strength and quickness and will help a beaten-down o-line.

The team also loves Pouncey’s versatility since he could play either guard position as well.

Steelers acquire McFadden from Cardinals

The Pittsburgh Steelers traded for Arizona Cardinals cornerback Bryant McFadden, giving up a fifth-round draft pick in the process.

It was an easy move for Pittsburgh to make given their abundance of draft picks and the fact that several probably wouldn’t even have a chance to make the team.

The move reunites McFadden with the Steelers, the team he played on for several years before heading to Arizona.

Pittsburgh is hopeful that McFadden can re-energize a secondary that had its share of troubles last season.

Things won’t get any easier this year after the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals upgraded their wideouts.

Steelers fielding calls on Roethlisberger

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been fielding inquiries from other teams about the availability of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

There is a feeling around the league that the Steelers won’t trade Big Ben, but that the right offer would intrigue them.

The team seems willing to give Roethlisberger one more chance to stay out of trouble before cutting him loose.

That said, the Steelers could be interested in offers made by teams like the Oakland Raiders or Buffalo Bills.

The Raiders in particular could become an interesting player because they are willing to go out and make big splashes, even if they have to vastly overpay to do so.

Steelers trade for Leftwich

The Pittsburgh Steelers have traded a seventh-round draft pick to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for veteran quarterback Byron Leftwich.

Leftwich has played for the Steelers in the past, so he has an understanding of their offensive system.

The move is insurance for the Steelers since they still have not been informed about the length of Ben Roethlisberger’s impending suspension.

Leftwich joins the team only in a backup role, as the Steelers would turn to Dennis Dixon as the starter.

The team also has Charlie Batch under contract, and he would also be ahead of Leftwich on the depth chart.

Roethlisberger suspended by NFL

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been suspended for six games by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

Despite not being charged with a crime, the police report provided plenty of evidence against Roethlisberger.

Goodell was alarmed by the evidence and a pattern of this type of behavior from the quarterback.

Roethlisberger is not expected to appeal the decision as he just wants to try and move on from this latest incident.

In the meantime, it looks like the Steelers will turn to backup quarterback Dennis Dixon as the new starter.

Steelers trade Holmes to Jets

The Pittsburgh Steelers have traded trouble wide receiver Santonio Holmes to the New York Jets.

In exchange for Holmes, the Steelers received New York’s fifth-round draft pick in 2010.

The Steelers had grown tired of both Holmes and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s off-the-field distractions.

They wanted to send a message to Roethsliberger and the team that the behavior would no longer be tolerated.

The fact that Holmes is in the final year of his contract and set to be suspended four games for violating the league’s substance abuse policy made the deal all that much easier to make.

Holmes suspended four games

Recently acquired New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes has been suspended four games by the NFL.

Holmes violated the league’s substance abuse policy, and is now just one positive test away from a year-long suspension.

The wide receiver has all of the talent in the world, but doesn’t seem to care for whatever reason.

He was the top playmaker for Pittsburgh and won a Super Bowl during which he also received the MVP award for the game-winning catch.

Now he has been traded away for almost nothing, and it will be interesting to see how he reacts to a change of scenery.

Roethlisberger apologizes for distraction

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger apologized to the NFL, his team, family and fans for the distractions he has caused in recent months.

Roethlisberger has been accused of sexual assault by two different women within the past year.

While charges were not brought in either case, one woman is suing the quarterback in civil court.

Where there is smoke, there is fire, and it seems like Big Ben has problems with drinking and going out with underage girls.

The Rooney family is horrified at all of the distractions involving their team, and it seems clear that one more strike means Roethlisberger is out of Pittsburgh.

Roethlisberger won’t be charged

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will not be charged after being accused of sexual assault by a Georgia woman.

It’s certainly good news for Roethsliberger and the Steelers, although he is not necessarily out of the woods yet when it comes to a possible suspension from the NFL.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell still wants to meet with Roethlisberger and has made it clear that bringing negative attention to the league is enough to warrant punishment.

This is the second time Roethlisberger has been accused of sexual assault. He is still being sued in civil court by the woman accusing him in the other case.

Either way, the Steelers and the NFL are not pleased with the quarterback’s off-the-field conduct and it’s clear he has some type of problem with this kind of stuff.

Holmes under investigation

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Santonio Holmes has at least temporarily taken the pressure off of teammate Ben Roethlisberger.

Holmes is now under investigation after a woman filed a report saying he threw a glass and hit her in the face.

The wide receiver has denied her claims, saying she became angry with him and got in his face.

The woman claims she was at a bar when a drunk Holmes became angry when asked to move.

She said he then took a glass and threw it at her face, resulting in a minor laceration. This is just the latest black eye for a Steelers organization that has been getting a lot of negative attention of late.
