Batch signs with Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed backup quarterback Charlie Batch to a two-year contract. Financial terms have not been disclosed.

The deal keeps Batch with the Steelers despite the fact that he got injured last year and Dennis Dixon moved into the backup role and performed well.

The veteran, who has also spent time with the Detroit Lions, does have a history of injury problems. He missed all of the 2004 and 2008 seasons with injuries.

Batch gives the Steelers a veteran quarterback they can count on, which might be really important given starter Ben Roethlisberger’s current legal situation.

The team expects that Dixon and Batch will wage a battle over the backup job in training camp.

Roethlisberger situation remains full of questions

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger still has not been charged despite being accused of sexual assault.

A friend of the accuser said that someone was guarding the bathroom, which is where the alleged assault took place.

She also said that the person guarding the bathroom told her it was locked and she couldn’t get in.

The woman said she was concerned about her friend because she might be drunk, but the guard said she wasn’t panicked.

The accuser is expected to speak to police soon to clear up some misstatements, according to her lawyers.

Tomlin worried about Roethlisberger

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said he is concerned about quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

He said he is worried about the situation surrounding the team’s quarterback and the state of the franchise.

Rumors were abound awhile back that Tomlin didn’t much care for Roethlisberger’s attitude and inability to throw the ball away.

At the time, some said that Tomlin actually preferred inexperienced third-string quarterback Dennis Dixon to Roethlisberger.

Tomlin’s job is not in jeopardy, but Big Ben could be putting it on the line if he gets suspended or thrown in jail.

Foote signs with Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed linebacker Larry Foote to a three-year contract worth $9.3 million.

It was just a couple of years ago that the Steelers let Foote walk for salary cap reasons, which really angered the player.

After a short stint starting for the Detroit Lions, Foote is now coming back as a backup linebacker.

Foote is more than willing to return as a reserve linebacker because he wants to play for a winner and knows the scheme.

It also doesn’t hurt that James Farrior is now 35-years old and injuries tend to crop up and settle these types of situations.

Steelers re-sign Clark

The Pittsburgh Steelers have re-signed safety Ryan Clark and signed former wideout Antwan Randle-El.

Many thought that the Steelers were going to let Clark walk, but they were able to sign him to a four-year contract worth $14 million.

Randle-El left the Steelers to play for the Washington Redskins, a move that didn’t work out well for either party.

He made it known that he wanted to return to the Steel City, and he signed a three-year contract with the team.

The team also signed wide receiver Arnaz Battle, meaning Limas Sweed could be on the chopping block.

Roethlisberger facing another sex assault accusation

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is being accused again of sexual assault, this time by a 20-year old girl in a Georgia nightclub.

The quarterback was apparently out with some friends one night when they started hanging out with another group of girls.

Very few details surrounding the case have been released yet, but both the girl and Roethlisberger have been interviewed by police and no charges have been filed.

Roethlisberger’s agent said the quarterback has been cooperative with the police but said the accusation is very suspect considering one that happened just months earlier.

It was just a little less than a year ago when a woman accused Roethlisberger of sexual assault that had occurred years ago, and the case ended up going nowhere.
