The Pittsburgh Steelers were outplayed in nearly all facets of the game Sunday, except for one critical area: the turnover battle.
The Steelers used a fumble and an interception and a little luck and turned it into two defensive touchdowns to carry them past the Minnesota Vikings, 27-17.
It was not a good day for Pittsburgh’s offense, which could not consistently move the ball up and down the field.
Ben Roethlisberger and Co. managed to put only 13 points on the scoreboard and should give a big thank you to their defense.
Pittsburgh’s defense gave up a lot of yards, but they made plays when their backs were against the wall.

The Pittsburgh Steelers started off slowly but used a big passing day from quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to roll past the rival Cleveland Browns, 27-14.
Roethlisberger carried Pittsburgh on a day when their running game was surprisingly sluggish. The quarterback threw for over 400 yards and two touchdowns.
Wide receiver Hines Ward continues to show that he hasn’t lost a step, racking up another 85 yards and a touchdown. He remains the team’s best wideout.
The defense was much better than the score indicated, as one of Cleveland’s touchdowns came on a kickoff return from Joshua Cribbs.
Next week will prove to be a much stiffer test for Pittsburgh when they host the undefeated Minnesota Vikings.

It wasn’t pretty by any means, but the Pittsburgh Steelers did what it took to emerge victorious against the Detroit Lions, 28-20.
The Steelers probably would have won in more convincing fashion had a Ben Roethlisberger interception not been returned for a touchdown.
Still, the Steelers simply had way too much talent for the Lions, who were without Matthew Stafford and lost Calvin Johnson early in the game.
Running back Rashard Mendenhall came back to Earth after last week’s effort, but he still managed to find the end zone.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have taken a big blow with the loss of defensive end Aaron Smith for the rest of the season.
Smith partially tore his rotator cuff and will have to undergo surgery. He will be out the next three months.
He is one of the longest tenured players on the roster and considered the backbone of the defense.
Many cite him as the main reason the Steelers have such a strong run defense, and his loss will hurt.

The Pittsburgh Steelers dominated the first three quarters before holding on for a 38-28 win over the San Diego Chargers.
It was clear from the start that Pittsburgh wanted to make a statement after dropping its past two games.
They did so with the much-maligned running game, which featured the ever-frustrating Rashard Mendenhall.
The running back went well over the 100-yard mark and found the end zone twice as the Steelers re-established their ground game.
However, their defense gave up 21 fourth quarter points, which made for some tense moments in the final five minutes of the game.
